Blue-Cloud Hackathon 2025

The Blue-Cloud Hackathon 2025 is a collaborative event inviting scientists, researchers, and innovators to explore the open science ecosystem developed by the Blue-Cloud 2026 project. It’s your chance to design and test data-driven workflows using the platform’s Virtual Labs, Workbenches, and analytical tools to extract insights from diverse marine datasets.

You’ll gain hands-on experience with Blue-Cloud’s services to build innovative applications, test the platform’s capabilities, and help shape its future. By exploring real user needs and identifying areas for improvement, you’ll contribute directly to enhancing the Blue-Cloud ecosystem while advancing open, collaborative marine science.

Participation is open to everyone, regardless of nationality or location. Just make sure you’re over 18 and not subject to any legal restrictions under EU regulations.

No! The entire hackathon experience, including all related activities, is completely free of charge.

Yes! You can register as an individual. During the ideation phase and on the Eventornado, you’ll have multiple opportunities to meet others, form a team, or join one that matches your interests and skills. After registering, you can head to the “Participants” tab to connect with others or check the “Teams” tab to request to join an existing team. You can also browse the “Ideas” section to find projects that need your skills.

Teams must have at least 3 and no more than 10 members to participate.

The hackathon is designed for teams that include at least one member with coding and/or programming experience.

Yes! Throughout the hackathon, coaches and mentors will provide expert guidance to develop your idea.
Yes! We encourage you to do so! It does not need to be perfect, as you’ll have the chance to refine it further during the warm-up and the 3-day hackathon, but it might inspire others to join your team, and already hint us specific mentorship needs & opportunities.

Absolutely! Everyone who completes the hackathon will receive a signed certificate of participation.

Blue-Cloud 2026 is a collaborative project that leverages Europe’s expertise in aquatic environmental observation and data handling. Building on existing infrastructures like Copernicus and EMODnet, Blue-Cloud aims to create a federated ecosystem for FAIR and open data in marine research. Through a web-based platform, it offers simplified access to multidisciplinary datasets, analytical services, and computing facilities.

Over 42 months, Blue-Cloud 2026 will expand its core services, integrate more analytical tools, and enhance data discovery and access. With a focus on supporting the EU Blue Economy and environmental agendas, it strives to contribute to the EU Green Deal and UN Sustainable Development Goals. Coordinated by CNR, Trust-IT Services, and MARIS, the project brings together a dedicated team of 40 partners from 13 EU countries.
